Thought a wee update was required! Since I last posted I’ve been playing the pipes at weddings, Burns’ Suppers, funerals and doing the usual bagpipe lessons during the week, with a couple of new students thrown in!
Burns’ day this year was on a Monday so I had a few gigs the day before, the highlight being Cafe Gandolfi in Glasgow – such a cool place with a very chilled vibe so it’s always nice to play there. Kevin was the host again this year, so before his address to the haggis I played it into the room with ‘A Man’s a Man’ & of course, ‘Auld Lang Syne’.
At the beginning of February I had a gig with the Red Hot Chilli Pipers in Aberdeen. It was in the Beach Ballroom – a cool art deco building with a sprung floor, which made the gig a bit easier as we jump at points! I had never heard of the venue before but apparently some famous name have played there, including The Beatles and Pink Floyd 🙂 Cool.
On teaching side of things I have a couple of new students: Arianna, a young girl from Paisley, and Oscar from Barcelona. The keen spaniard speaks no english and vice versa, so we have been conversing via google translate – a new experience for me but an interesting one.
Cheers,
J
